~Hawk was absolutely silent again. His tail even stilled. His entire body could've passed for a statue. Little do you know that Birch isn't the only dog who despises impudent coyotes...~

She would be perfectly capable of freeing herself. It would be effortless- if only she could redirect her sister's attention by giving her a wound. I can't do that. I can't wound my sister. I can't. "I'm sorry," she whispered inaudibly in the direction of the dogs she knew had placed all of their fading hopes in her. "I can't do it." Ash let her claws go limp and her head drop. "I yield," she muttered, invisible tears pooling behind her eyes. I've failed. I've failed them all.~

Birch saw the blood welling in between her own claws.She yelped and skidded back, relieving her sister.She nuzzled her sister,"Im so sorry, Ash!"she murmured.

~Midnight leapt down from the Leaders' Boulder, jolting the entire pack out of their trance. "Birch the hunter has won!" she howled, her tail flagged with excitement, though none knew it was truly apprehension. Solarsun's prophecy had proved true. Birch had won.
Midnight couldn't suppress an invisible glare at Ash. You had my faith that you could beat her. A true leader doesn't back down because of blood ties. "River Pack," Midnight let her voice escalate so high that the very forest thrummed like thunder, "meet your new Beta!"~
~Ash winced and slowly slunk away from her sister as Midnight approached, radiating rage in Ash's direction. She spun on her hindquarters and fled into the forest, enraged tears streaming down her muzzle.~
