The problem isn't the people on the show or the shows themselves, the problem is the REST of the general population that will think "OH HOW CUTE AND FUN" and not have a clue OR think they can make money at it. Just like PUPPY MILLS...

I'm sorry, I totally disagree. We have plenty of hatcheries out there, they aren't like puppy mills, or maybe they are? Chickens are different than puppies.

They are worse than puppy mills, and one of the reasons I'm going to start breeding and raising my own as soon as I can and NOT use hatcheries.

Could be "How cute and fun"... Or it could only further the stereotype that chickens are disgusting, loud, and annoying. Which way will it go? Only time will tell. Never watched the show, but this I may tune in for.

And yet nobody is trying to shut hatcheries down. Livestock has always and will always be treated differently than other animals because they will always be seen as livestock. Hatcheries are the only way some people are able to get certain kinds of birds.

The point is this COULD be a good thing! Like I said the producers wouldn't allow such a big decision to take place without their input and they certainly wouldn't allow anything that could hurt their ratings. Her chickens will be well taken care of, even if it isn't by her (only on screen will she probably interact with them).

I personally don't have any experience watching this show. I think I've seen one episode back when she was married. Are the kids old enough now to help take care of hte chickens?

They will probably order chicks and show what a great learning experience it can be for her kids. Maybe if they end up becoming dedicated BYC owners they'll eventually invest in an incubator and hatch their own eggs. What kind of a message does that send to the audience?

I would still support this decision on almost any (I say almost any because if this were Real World Id be totally against it) reality show.

There are a lot of people who don't have a high opinion of Martha Stewart and feel her name is nothing short of a name brand stamped on things to make them sell, yet I didn't see anyone against her having BYC. Maybe someone should contact Oprah, now THAT would be some advertising.

Remember the german shepherd puppies they got a while back (the kids' "Christmas Present")? Those dogs lasted about 3 months before she sent them back. The chickens will be gone at the first sign of a poo. She is a complete narcissist.
