We started the New Year off by building a coop and run for the Marans to be used as a breeder pen, staring with them. DH and I finished after dark last night and then carried them in one by one. This morning they seem adjusted to their new home and everyone else comes and peeks through the wire at them. We still have painting and trim work and clean up and final touches to do but everything around here is a work in progress. We converted an old run-in-shed that had been added onto the old pump house and then we built the run. It's in our orchard where we have been plating lots of fruit trees. I also plan to plant climbing fruit vines like blackberry and raspberry vines along the run's fence. That way the chickens can have anything that grows near the ground and we can have the rest.
I made this gate/door all by myself.
Of course, Rex, on hawk watch.
Some of the Jesse James gang:
The assorted flock of chicks I hatched from SCBirdFarms eggs are thriving. Here's one of my little "Crazy Professors".
Finally, don't you know it. Prissy must have taken out an ad because guess what showed up on our porch yesterday, cold, wet and shivering????
He's an older male beagle but other than that I can't tell much. He's been hiding under table in laundry room/shed since we found him. We did put a notice up in both feed stores and did go to nearest hunting camp and gave them a notice as well. Of course, no one is claiming him.
I guess if we have to keep him, I'll call him Snoopy. But then that doesn't fit in with the Tara theme now does it? So I guess I'll have to finish my GWTW novel I started months ago and see what other character names I can find.
Never a dull moment around here.
