I don't care if you're a man or a woman...there are certain things EVERYONE should experience or know how to do . I'll start here....and remember..it's NOT gender specific !!!

Cooking
Laundry
Cleaning
Sewing
Typing (computer stuff )
Spelling
Grammar
Responsibility ( meaning take it as your own instead of blaming others for your problems )
POWER TOOLS ( if you don't know how to use them.....you have a computer...figure it out ! )
Ironing
Basic maintenance on you vehicle ( i.e . checking fluids , or figuring out problems yourself by computer , books , or asking people !)
Communication between others without raising your voice
Enjoying life ( not the fake smile and laugh to convice you you're happy....the I'm letting everything go that's on my mind happy so I can enjoy TODAY !)

I believe everyone here needs to be reminded of this.....we take everything , and everyone for granted most of the time . Example : I know so and so who knows how to do this ...if I give them a call , they'll come out to help us . Think twice before you make that call ....is it someone who you talk with all of the time....or just someone you call BECAUSE they know how to do it .

My point in this is.......life is way too easy for us....sometimes you just have to dig in and SEE if you can conquer it ......most people just see the problem...not what they can do to fix it .

Those are all great things for people to know and/or at least try!.....but, i would also add: Always think about how your words (written or said) affect others...Always try to practice kindness to others....and remember, just because you may excel in a thing..others may not excel in that specific subject, dont judge them if they dont meet your standards....treat others how YOU would like to be treated....IMO, i think thats a good thing to know how to do also..., Take care, Wendy..

I would have to say that half of that falls under the Responsibilty qoute that was posted ...............the other half I agree on. I just had a conversation with SD about this .......DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER . Some of us are ragged and worn down...some of us are brand new ...some of us have pretty pictures ....others are just plain . Once you get past that ...you might learn something...or even enjoy the book .

We all have the capability to learn more...it may take longer than some ....we may not be as good...but our brain allows us to function . It's in us...some are just unwilling and too afraid to learn

This is a fantastic thread,

lol... I have read this with great interest. Since my determination to have chickens has become a reality, I have overcome my fear of doing any kind of construcion work myself. Always being told you are rubbish at things can have a huge impact and create the fear, so we should always challenge ourselves.

That has been really good. I now use a drill which I used to be afraid of, and despite not being well, I have been out there and done things. Totally agree with the respect for others and being a bit more thoughtful.

Spending time at home has also brought me back to doing things I have loved in the past but only as a hobby. I am now cooking and baking more and knitting and sewing, and writing more which was my ultimate aim.

The people thing is good as I really believe that along with enhancing your life in other areas, this is something the modern world really needs. To get to know and understand a little more about other people. Plus living your life to fit your own ethics and beliefs.

Thank you for starting this, very encouraging... lol.

lol... I don't know how to do 6/13 of those things.

I agree. Thats probably why i can;t do 6 of those things. I want to try and see if I can do them, like building things and sewing (I've always wanted to do both so I could make things for my pets) but I don't have the materials.

Dill,

You can do them, believe me. I always said I could not do some of these things. I would never have thought I could build my run, and alter the coup to put a hatch door in, but I have, and I don't have the money either.

But I had a go and it works. lol... I love knitting and sewing but have always been held back by time and rushing around doing things I had to do. I hae scraps of material that I have made silly toy things with and I am pleased with the results.

have a go and you will find you can do it. May not be perfect at first but that comes with experience.

I am learning that other people have their own reasons for putting you down, and I have spent a long long time being affected by them.

Good luck,

I am still trying. lol....

If you set your mind to do a task or to learn a skill you can do anything. I think I have proven that to myself and my kids over and over again.
