Haha, I get it. This time of year is rough. Everyone is over the cold, dead looking trees, dirt, brown grass, snow, and general yuck.Ok, so this is not the crew to complain about winter to. But I swear when southern folk post pics of green trees and blue skies,I get a lump in my throat. The cold doesn't bother me if I'm busy, but the dreary white-blah.
It's been pretty wintering since middle of December here , nothing really cold in the minus digits but consistently hovering in the teens or low 20's during the day and near single digits at night and no real big snows a few 6 to 8 inchers but an inch or more everyday. They go out on nice daysTemps here got up to 6F yesterday! Plus we had sunshine!
The guineas finally decided to come out for some fresh air. They didn’t want to walk in the snow, so up the pine tree they went

Poor little girl in the middle just wanted a nice nap in the sun, but the chicky behind her kept calling. Haha. View attachment 2524358
I’m not sure what happened to her head. I didn’t notice the blood till I came inside and looked at the pictures. Pecking wound or maybe got cut flying into the tree?
Hope everyone is staying warm!
It hasn’t been an unusually cold winter, but this cold is sure lasting a long time without a break.
How is everyone doing? It’s been pretty quiet around the guinea forum.
It was 13°F when I walked the mile round trip to the mailbox today. By the time I got back to the house I had icicles on my mustache.Ok, so this is not the crew to complain about winter to. Awe, they all look nice and cozy. They go out on nice days View attachment 2525191 but most of the time they prefer to hang inside
Haha, I hear ya on that. My kids are so tired of being home. They feel this whole past year was a waste. Maybe this year will be better. My kids were already stir crazy with COVID, and now we’ve been mostly housebound, so cabin fever is really rearing it’s head!

My driveway is 100' at the most. The mailboxes are at the next street to the south, a 1/2 mile away.A mileI thought my driveway was long! Mine is only half a mile round trip.
-7°F right now. The wind chill is nasty. The guineas have already been out this morning. I leave the pop doors open and let all the poultry decide for themselves whether or not to go out.-14 this morning when I got up. High today will be -11. My chickens and guineas have been confined for several days but so far so good. The guineas sit in the window and complain about all the snow outside.![]()
The wind chill really is nasty. I think it was -39 while ago. You have a water system for your birds that doesn't freeze but if I left a pop door open all the water cans inside would freeze. I have a heat lamp hanging over the big main water can but it still gets a crust of ice on it. The heat lamp and the heat from 43 birds keeps it around 20 degrees inside the building. Better than what it is outside but still cold. Supposed to be -20 tonight. Think I'll just stay inside today...-7°F right now. The wind chill is nasty. The guineas have already been out this morning.
