I am doing what I am able to do. I am sorry that I was unable to get your reccomended solution but I am starting over. I am getting some new chicks from Murray Mcmurray hatchery and I will notify you via thread if your assistance is required.

MM hatchery sells Corid and Sulfadimethoxine for treatment of cocci--better get some since it is in your soil. Watch for symptoms, and start treating immediately.

Your chicks that died were not disposable. Those little lives suffered and died from something preventable. Your decision to buy more and 'start over' is irresponsible unless you ALSO buy the Corid or Sulfadimethoxine as suggested. Also, next time, if you come here for help please heed the advice of the fabulous and knowledgable members around here.

Maddie you can get Corid at Tractor Supply. I t wiil be cheaper there. But do the chicks a HUGE favor and buy it before the chicks arrive at your house.

To all of you who responded, I am neither being abusive or neglectful. I am 15 years old, I am joint running a hobby farm of chickens and goats and this is the first time that I have lost so many all at once. Trust me, I was VERY stressed out! I will be honest in saying that I gave them Electrolytes and Wazine wormer and they already are hopping around again. I am sorry that the fact of me not getting Corid was so offensive.
Please private message me if you have a problem with something I said or did, and not on a public forum. I am a Christian and the Bible says to 'regard the life of your beast' and I spent hours with a teaspoon syringe trying to do just that. And trust me, it was a hot job!
Thank you for your time, but please explain to me how thread replies -calling me abusive- were helpful.

Kathy, I think this is just a kid that got their hackels up and got stubborn over the whole thing. From the looks of the picture, if so, it is a VERY young kid at that, maybe 12? She mentioned about her Mom and is using kid texting typing also, guessing here, but think she just took this all wrong and dug her feet in hard. Sad that the chickens had to die because of it though

I really have a hard time on these threads and have to take frequent breaks from things just like this. It hurts my heart for the animals too much!!!

If that is the case, then this is also a case of some pretty poor parenting (imho) -- when my children take on the responsibility for an animal I, too, am accepting that responsibility. While it may very well be "their" animal to be responsible for and care for, it is *my* job to assure that all is well and that things are being done as they should and that if/when problems arise they are addressed, whether my child wants to 'dig in their heels" or not. There is no reason for multiple animals in my child's care to be sick and dying without me being aware of it - and being aware of it obligates me, as the parent, to take action.

Hi- I am Marcy, Maddie's mother. She has loved chickens since she was a little tiny girl. Now at the age of fifteen she has raised many flocks (usually 50-60 free range hens at a time) and has always had healthy, happy chickens As Christians we have taught our children to be good stewards of what God has given them. She does an amazing job not only caring for her chickens but also a dairy goat herd. When she started losing chickens I thought it was from us giving them too much produce (mainly watermelon.) We both researched online and read lots of conflictng advice. We called several hatcheries and they all suggested we use pedialyte (which we did immediately.) She has spent countless hours sitting outside in the hot, GA heat literally feeding each chicken by hand the pedialyte. When she would find more dead ones she would be very upset. She found this forum and joined to get help. I was shocked when I found out how rude some have been and calling her "abusive". As soon as people on this forum told her it sounded like worms we went to our local farm store and bought two things they recomended. The chickens started doing better after she hand fed them several times the things she bought. We were out of town today and happened to be able to go to a Tractor Supply and bought the Corid that y'all recommeded. Praying she doesn't lose any more, as she has worked so hard. Why do I feel the need to tell complete strangers all of this? Because, maybe next time as you sit anonymously behind your computer spouting off hurtful things you will think twice. We do appreciate those of you that have truly tried to be kind and helpful.
