A long, disapointing weekend. but looking foward to Spring!

The egg really does look like a bacteria egg, as I too did not see a chick on the candling picture.

Sorry 77horses, but you should dispose of it before it bursts and makes a big stinky mess! Your probably lucky it hasn't already!

The wiggling may indicate the gases in the egg are running out of room so be careful!

(put the egg in a plastic bag and hold away from your face and pip the end where the aircell is. It may be what I said or it may be a chick in there like you are saying, either way, its time for you to do something).

Please update when you find out what was in there!

I am so sorry 77horses. I was rooting for you.

Hey guys..... The chick is dead. I cracked the egg open last night, at the air cell, and saw the tiny chick inside, not moving.....

I waited to see any movement, but then i sniffed the egg where i made the hole and it smelled strange. I cracked open more, until i got the chick to slide out. It was not even half the size of my palm!

It had feathers, eyes were closed(and would never open again...

) and it had a beak and feet were yellow. It's feathers were light brown colored, would have been a cute little chick....

I am really upset about it, but I had a feeling it wouldn't make it, since it was so late. Luckily, it didn't explode, and I disposed of it outside. The wiggling must have been, like you guys said, from the gas build up or my imagination. Poor little guy/girl.

But, at least i learned something from it. I am gonna make a new, better bator next spring and my dad is gonna make a small coop for baby chicks to be in, without having to worry about the older ones pecking the little ones.

Rest in peace, little fuzzy butt.

Thanks to all of you who gave me advise and I'm sorry that you guys were waiting for the egg to hatch and it didn't.

Thanks for all your support!

It was very tiny, and looked like it died at about 14+ days old. The yolk sack was still there, and for some reason it had a strange color to it.

I am guessing some how bacteria had something to do with it. The chick was not fully developed, but it did have feathers, eyes were closed, feet, legs, and a beak. Looked like it was fully formed, but it was really small.

What happened? I think it was bacteria.

I am so sorry your little chick didn't make it. I'm so glad you're taking it so positively. I know its hard and I know you really wanted it, but just like you said its best to learn from it and move forward to the next time. Good luck.

So sorry, 77. I was really hoping things would have turned out differently for you. But you definately did everything you could!! Sometimes nature just takes care of itself...

So sorry 77 horses......

If I were you i would save up my allowance (or ask for it for your birthday/christmas) and buy an incubator/turner if you have boatloads of cash instead of making one. Some times the farm and home stores give discounts for 4-H kids etc which means you can buy an incubator for 10-15% off or around 30 some odd dollars. Go on www.craigslist.com in your area and search for incubators. A good styrofoam incubator would be sufficient until you get mastered at hatching and need a bigger one or maybe 2 or 3.

Good luck and I am glad we all could be here to send good wishes and hugs and tears with you! If it makes you feel any better my first hatch of 36 eggs produced the big zero on all of them......

Don't give up, just learn from what happened and go on and get some more eggs and a bator and hatch hatch hatch!

I am planning on building a new bator, from a styrofoam cooler.

But I am gonna wait til Spring to start hatching again. Wal-Mart doesn't have any more coolers right now, since Summer is over. I think it's best to wait until my dad builds a small coop esp. made for baby chicks, so they won't get pecked on by the older ones.

Can't wait til next Spring!!!!
