A misguided buy :/

Its definitely not big enough for LF chickens. I understand you trying to get them to change their advertisement to state the correct amount of birds it can house...
Meanwhile can you add on for your girls? Your 10x10 run is big enough maybe add walls to the run area on the little coop to make it work for your girls now.
Just an idea

Look on craigs for a used shed,or perhaps buy a cheap metal one until you can get this issue settled. I have my 8 hens in an old metal coop, and it is working out ok.I did hire someone to buy a wooden coop, but unfortunately they decided to not build it. I think the best thing is to build your own.Lots of ideas on this web page that can get you going. I am going to build my own instead of dealing with the disappointment of getting it from someon else.

can you build a simple "bedroom/living room" addition onto the existing structure? I know that's not what you paid for, though, but it might be the easier solution in the long run.

I just found this food/water system. Might work with our tiny coop footprint. Not sure what to do about the water freezing in winter, though? Maybe hang these inside?

FWIW, my chickens are 17 and 19 weeks, and they seem totally happy in this coop at night. They haven't gone into the nesting boxes yet (no one is laying yet), and they really don't go in the main coop area, either. We added a roost in the big open area, and that's where they seem to prefer to sleep. I'm assuming they'll go inside when it gets cold.

I am also concerned about the fact that there's no inner door closure on mine (I have the villa), and the door just has hardware cloth in the window. It got down to -16 here last winter, and we had about 5 days in a row where it was below zero. That was record-setting cold, and at this point I figure the chickens will be living in the garage for a few days if we have another cold snap like that this winter. Remind me why this coop is worth $500+?

Oh, oh...
a heated waterer (NH) and it sais keep out of the elements.

Oh my, I have been looking at those. No where in the ads I saw did it say they have to be 100% dry. I thought if it was under shelter, out of direct rain , I was going to be okay. Boy.. all this is more complicated than it should be.

I do think they should send you the wood end panel that was replaced with wire. That is a reasonable request on your part, and understandable that a co. would shift a design and not get the web site updated right away. Darn irritating though.
Reading here it seems having two or three sides blocked on that lower portion so the chickens might be able huddle safe if something is trying to reach in and get a chicken snack. Seems easy enough to do for the lower risk, so that is part of what I'm planning.

What you ended up with is most definitely not as advertised and they should be given a chance to rectify the situation. Worse comes to worst, you can always file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if your letter doesn't get any action from them. They may not be a member of the BBB, but they'll still keep a file on the company and show any complaints to those who seek out company information down the road and if the complaints were "satisfactorily" settled.

It definitely is more complicated then it should be. And it is not just the site that i got my coop from that has the issue of giving misguided information. I can't wait to see what the company has to say about my email... i'd like to know their reasoning anyway.

My coop is similar in size. It is only to be a "bedroom" upstairs and downstairs is to keep them free enough till I get up in the morning. I figured as long as the entire thing is predator proof, I'm good to go. It appears to me they are saying the same thing, other than "several hours " being vague. ?? ?

Nope-still doesn't fly for me. The coop has a roost, so chickens are clearly meant to sleep there, and nests, so they are meant to lay eggs there. It's meant, by the furnishings, for chickens to stay in there overnight and into the morning. I can see that statement making sense for the run portion. You have alternatives like letting them free range or having it open into another, larger, run. But the coop is meant to house chickens. Saying it's for 3-4 chickens and expecting people to not have the chickens roost or lay in there, when there is clearly the equipment for that, is misleading.

My dog coop conversion has more room than that has... BUT that said, It is perfect for littles. Not full grown, but great conversion for littles. I was temted to buy one like that, but when I read that chickens needed 2-4 feet per bird depending on size of bird, I didn't. I thought it might be ok for silkies thou, since we are talking 2-3 pound birds... BUT not LF chicken...
