My first batch of baby chicks came from Murray McMurray this week! There are 33 in the brooder now, not all of which are mine. 19 go to their new homes Friday, but it is fun to have so many for now. Here are some pictures. Breeds include: SL Wynadottes, Buttercup, Delaware, Arcauna, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, and Dark Cornish, as well as an as yet unidentified rare breed "mystery chick".

The whole pile!
Buff Orpington
Thirsty girls!
Working the camera!
More pictures to come I am sure. The coop is getting finished this weekend, well before the ladies will be ready to occupy it. I did add some little "roosts" to their brooder box...just some sticks from outside, but as they aren't even a week old yet they just kind of peck at them. I am excited to take them outside for the first time this weekend and let them get a little sunshine!

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
