A more Green Way To Brood Chicks.

im all for greener ideas..but..as someone already wrote the energy efficient dont give off heat..(( ive already tried ))..i buy the 60 & 90 watt bulbs.. i use a wooden box & use a old screen window to fit over box opening..drap a cloth over it to keep in heat...afixed a dimer switch socket to it...can adjust temp as needed...as box stays warmer in hot summer months can turn heat down with dimer control....cooler days can adjust to keep chicks warmer.....few friends & amish guy all use kerosene heaters...no worry of electricy..but not sure if either of these are "green" ideas.

There is one completely green way to raise chicks without using electricity. You ready?

A chick needs to be able to get 100 degrees on it's back the first few days of it life. They can not regulate their body temperature the first days. Temperature is very important.

Ceramic heat lamps do not give off light (therefore not keeping your chicks up partying all night). They give off the right amount of heat that you will need.. and they are much more efficient and last so much longer than regular light-emitting heat lamps.
