What do we do first before deciding what type of chickens to get? (we are vegetarians)

I have just joined this group. My daughter and I are about to add chickens (for eggs) into our lives. We thought that starting in spring would be a good time. Now our research begins... We look forward to getting insight and knowledge from this site.

For the past 26 years our family has designed and manufactured log homes in Northern California. We are going to see if we can build a nice hen house from wood we have in our production yard.

Here goes.....
 
Hello and welcome to BYC. I'd imagine if you can't build the fanciest coop, you should give up your collective day jobs :D
