A ? on Broodiness....

I love it when broodies do that!

It's how they steal eggs from other nests, too. The hen tucks the egg just like that, but HOLDs it there against her breast as she waddles with it to her own nest. Some hens tuck eggs under their wings to carry them.

It's a hoot to watch!
 
My chicken has been sitting in the coop most of the day. I'm not sure what is going on? I went in the coop thinking that she was laying an egg, but she wasn't. When I went into the coop, she went outside and was eating, but I don't think she stayed out of it for long. I believe that she is 3 years old. Is she brooding or should I worry?

I'm a new chicken owner. I have 4 of them. One (the one I'm talking about is 3), another one is 2 and there are 2 more that just started laying this past week.

Very funny. My eggs don't touch! LOL

If you have not wormed them, you may want to. Worms can make them act broody for an extended time as well. Looks like it is lush there where you are at where they make eat earthworms which are an excellent host for worms....
