I got 3 eggs in 4 hours yesterday, from 2 hens. Is that normal?
3 eggs from 2 hens in 4 hours? I've not heard of that! I'm going to ask the question that MUST be asked: Are you sure you only have 2 hens? OK, now that THAT'S out of the way...
Positive. The 3rd is a roo who does his job very, very well. Every egg I open is fertile.
Wow! I'm still fairly new at this, so hopefully Monarc or another of our quail gurus will chime in soo.
are you shure 4 hours. or four hours from the time you noticed the first one?? could one have been laid the day before???
how many birds do you have together? Could one of your roos be a hermaphrodite?
Quote:3....Are you serious?! That never even crossed my mind! Is that really possible?
Quote:Nope. I usually have one in the morning and one at night. Yesterday I got one at about 2 pm, and one at about 4 pm. When I started supper at 5:30-ish, I heard one of them singing the egg song. A couple minutes later, my dd went to give them some mealworms, and she brought me a 3rd egg.
I'm thinking maybe it's because they just started laying within the last couple weeks. Maybe they're irregular at first? Anyway, they were all normal, fertile eggs.
Now I was SURE I wouldn't get any eggs today since I got an extra yesterday. My dh got home at 5:30 and said we had an egg. I took it out of the hutch, and we went out to eat and run errands.
We got back at 7:30, and there were 2 more eggs! That's 6 eggs in a little over 24 hours! Are these some miracle quail or what?
THEY BUSY GIRLS!
