I'm a 5 and a 6. But instead of "I want to eat less meat..." it's, "I am eating less meat.."

I'm working on being a 10.

Umm 7 8 and want to do 10

7 because we're broke
8 because we need protein for our brain function
10 because we need protein for our brain function BUT we don't need all the crud they put in store bought trucked meats. We try to get as much deer as we can in the freezer which helps us with 7,8, and 10!

Was that clear as mud?!?!

Hmmm, I think I'm closest to 7. I want to eat less meat for financial reasons, but also believe 8. I don't think there is anything unhealthy about meat and eat it (ALMOST) every day and wish I could 10. only eat meat I can grow myself or get from trusted private sources. Here's my 11. Other. Please describe.

Because of budget constraints I do not buy much meat for the family. The meat I do buy is the healthiest I can afford, looking for lean cuts of beef, turkey, chicken & fish, looking for the types raised in the healthiest & humane conditions, like grass-fed beef & all natural pork. And I use it in dishes that make it stretch, with lots of added veggies & rice or pasta. This is for financial & for health reasons. I have a lot of home-grown chicken in the freezer and haven't bought chicken in a few years now. If I had more cooperation from the rest of the family I would try raising a pig or steer for the meat. But the most help I get with the meat chickens is when it comes time to eat them.

(the scary part is I understood every word! LOLOLOL)

I am adding one more question that has popped in to my head as I read through the commentary. Answer if you like. I will post it on the front page, but I will also put it here for people who are just coming back to check replies....

• Do you believe lean meat is healthier than non-lean meat?
• If so, how did you come to believe this?

8 - I have a hard time finding a meal without meat.

I am not sure of the lean meat question though. I prefer lean ground beef because you end up with more meat after cooking it. When buying steaks and roasts I look for good marbling because the fat seems to keep the meat tender.

Yes i believe he had said.

Only because a major part of our diet is deer meat processed ourselves.
The only fat in there i put there and is only enough to cook it without burning.
Now i have had numerous tests on my ateries and heart itself recently due to having a stroke 3 weeks ago.
I have 0% blockage no high colesterol and a very healthy heart (always a good thing to know)
So yes i contribute that to lean meat consumption. Because everything else i eat probably isnt that good for me

On 11.... I can taste something metallic and bitter in most processed meats and I don't like it, I do NOT eat pork unless it has been cured or is 'organic' because the metallic taste is so strong it makes me sick to my stomach. Have the same issue with most store bought eggs half the year (usually fall to winter), nothing worse than metallic tasting eggs.

To get around the cost and metallic taste thing I wait until the 'good' stuff gets tossed in the 'still fresh' reduced bin for beef and pork (the Nolan Ryan brand doesn't have that metallic taste in case you'd like to know). Chicken I buy only one store brand ('locally' produced)and only when there is a big huge half off or more sale then I stock up.
