A Poll On Meat and Meatless Nights (Now with a bonus question)

Non-lean is better I believe. Its been an idea that has kinda been in the back of my mind for a long time, I keep thinking thats how we used to eat meat, there were no LEAN offerings at the store, and most of our meat had the bone in as well, and way way back in those days, there were not as many issues with illness that folks are having to deal with these days.

I believe folks eat less when their meal tastes good, that bland meat with no fat just doesn't taste as good, and people tend to want to eat more of it to feel satisfied.
Now a huge fat cow isn't health either, I'm talking about the good healthy grass fed/pastured animal fat with no antibiotics or meds.

I am about 3/4 of the way through the book "Real Food" by Nina Planck - and what she writes just makes sense! Its logical.

It's a toss up between 5 and 9 really. I KNOW I need more protein in my diet. I eat almost all carbohydrates and processed garbage (lots of cereal, lots of PB&J). So even though I know red meat isn't necessarily the best thing for my colon, I know I need to eat meat. I just can't do the whole soy thing or munch on peanuts all day to get my protein. I'd gladly eat fish a few nights a week, I just can't afford it when it's freakin $7 a pound!

My boyfriend has this gigantic protein shake jar, but I heard that if you drink those and don't work out it turns to fat.

We're big meat eaters. However, I would love to eat more home or local raised meats, and cut out the grocery store. Unfortunately, our budget and some restraints prevent us from completely cutting out grocery store meats.

I think that metallic taste is the sodium nitrates used in processed meat, but I don't know why store-bought eggs would taste like that. Thankfully I haven't had to eat store eggs for years now. I stopped eating processed meat during my pregnancies because I heard that the nitrates were bad for the baby's developing brain or something, then afterwards those processed meats never tasted good to me. I like the Oscar Mayer Natural Hot Dogs because they don't have nitrates and aren't too costly.

• Do you believe lean meat is healthier than non-lean meat? NO!
• If so, how did you come to believe this? http://www.westonaprice.org/ and experiencing it for myself!

You can call me "Jack Sprat's wife"!

I'm sitting here eating granola with raw, heavy cream as a snack. I have bacon and eggs for breakfast. I have been known to butter my steaks. When I roast a chicken, good luck getting any of the skin!

When it comes to meat, the fattier, the better in my opinion! (Just don't burn it and create all those carcinogenic compounds!)

I was a bloated, miserable, constantly hungry vegetarian for about 10 years. I felt better when I started eating meat again. (Grass-fed, local, humanely raised meat started becoming available) Then I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance, did lots of reading and research, found the Weston Price Foundation, ditched most grains, upped my fats and started feeling great for the first time since I was a kid.

As far as survival goes Fat is far better for you than the meat it's self is.(Read any survival guide) The colder the climate is & the higher your motabolism is determins how much fat your body will consume in a day. Try spending the day working in 15 degree temps with just greens & berries in your belly. As far as personal taist goes, The fattier the better.

Good point!
I also wonder how fast a person's body would go into that starvation mode where it saves up every ounce of fat, if you're not eating enough on a regular basis, you body kinda goes into panic mode and starts to build up stores of it.

I went with #8 with a lean towards #9. I enjoy meat and although I can get by a few meals without any meat in them I found out that if I go long periods of time without any meat (especially if I'm without red meat) I actually start to feel ill (hence the #9)

I think fat is essential to a good diet. Fatty acids play a leading role in prenatal development and brain development in the young child. Your brain is composed mostly of fat! (just found that out)

I think most whole foods - meat - vegies - grains - whatever, are good for you when part of a balanced diet. So when I eat meat, I eat the fat too and don't worry about it. Now if you eat like a 12 oz steak, and that's the type of portions you eat, then most certainly cut some of that fat out!

I came by these beliefs by watching my mother. Our house was high in whole foods of all sorts. She always told me to eat the fat on my meat when we had it, told me it was good for me. Well she's healthy...
