11. We eat very little meat, we feel that you can get protien from other sources.
We also eat less meat for financial reasons, meat is quite expensive.
My kids don't really enjoy meat, a pot roast has been known to start a crying mob of hungry kids.
Sorry ment pot roast but sure, a pet roast would do the same
I used to think lean meats were better for you. I was fully indoctrinated in the 'fat makes you fat, red meat is bad for you'. Funny thing tho'... I ate low fat, low calorie food that never satisfied me. I ate whole grains and avoided red meat and picked the tasty (but fatty!) skin off my chicken. I ballooned in weight and felt like poop.
I lost about 80lbs by eating big, fatty porterhouses every day and cutting out the grains and sugars. It was a complete reversal of my previous way of eating (and thinking).

I think that metallic taste is the sodium nitrates used in processed meat, but I don't know why store-bought eggs would taste like that. Thankfully I haven't had to eat store eggs for years now. I stopped eating processed meat during my pregnancies because I heard that the nitrates were bad for the baby's developing brain or something, then afterwards those processed meats never tasted good to me. I like the Oscar Mayer Natural Hot Dogs because they don't have nitrates and aren't too costly.
I should rephrase that, not just processed meats but high volume meats like most people buy everyday. There's just a strange taste there that I don't like. I even stopped eating pork and beef for almost 5 years before I found that the Nolan Ryan meats didn't have that after taste to them.
Not sure if it's what is fed to the animals before slaughter or if it's they way they are 'disinfected' but there is something there to my taste buds....
And the eggs
Guess it's what I get from growing up on a hog farm and eating eggs, chicken and pork that was home slaughtered for half my life.
# 10 The only sure way you don't get unwanted chemicals is to butcher your own livestock. I can't wait until April, GARDEN!!
