A Predator often overlooked

It is a Texas Rat Snake.

I know that what I'm going to post will not be popular -- it is, however, true. My wife just showed me the picture of the Texas Rat Snake. I can't find any posts as to the disposition of this particular citizen of the chicken ecosystem. Be aware that when you kill a pinnacle predator like this snake, you become overpopulated with all the animals it seeks as prey. The best policy is relocation and watch the environment work.

Yea the wild rabbits used to eat with my ducks and chickens before I had the holes under the dog run covered up but my new chickens chase them away.

I have seen squirrels kill baby birds, I would rather not see them around my chicks. My biggest fear with squirrels is fleas. Rat fleas carry bubonic plague - squirrels are nothing but furry tailed tree rats. Therefore, they are not welcome at my home. The snake is welcome, though. I don't like rodents anywhere on my place and just found a flock (pack, pod, whatever)of mice in my shed - ick!
