A proper etiquette question

Pfft, don't ask me, I don't even know which side of the palce setting the fork goes on! And which goes together? The fork and the knife? The fork and the spoon? Or the Spoon and the knife? And why do I need two forks? I can eat my salad and my entree with the same fork. I could eat it with a spoon, too.

Parsley is fine. Grabbing the orange wedge and gnawing on it - not so fine.

I suspect you are asking this - after the fact - to settle a difference of opinion. Am I correct?

I eat the garnishes, if I like them, why waste food? Everything on that plate should be edible. As long as you're not dribbling food out of the corner of your mouth, why worry what others think anyways?

Hi guys, this is Scoop. No difference of opinions here. She was just wondering. I don't know why, tho, we don't go to high class restaurants!

I say to eat it if you want to, after all, you paid for it!!! I wouldn't do it however, if I was a guest of someone and they didn't eat it! In other words, copy your hostess or host!

Presentation is very important in fine dining. (that's why the sauces are drizzled along the edges of your plate instead of on your dessert where you want it

) I served in fine dining for many years and will tell you that all garnishes were treated with the same care as every other food item in the kitchen. Also, all flowers that were on the plates were edible (something they do at valentines day). Nothing should be placed on the plate that is not edible. So, yes...you may eat the garnish.

That being said.......I think it has more to do with the company you have. If you don't know them well or they will look at you like you're crazy, I wouldn't eat it.

It's easy. Fork has four letters so it goes on the left side (left having four letters). Knife and spoon have five letters, like the word right does; so they go on the right side.
The knife always goes closest to the plate, with the cutting edge of the knife turned in.

I know you were only joking, but my DSD set the table for Christmas dinner and I was amazed that someone didn't know that. It was everything I could do to control my OCD mind and not go back and fix them after she was done setting the table.
