Hens breed hens. Sometimes though The ovary is damaged which causes them to take on male traits.OK so I have tried on multiple occasions to observe for a penis when (s)he is mounting the KKs. I haven't been able to see one, though it's hard to get a really good view when it's happening. (S)he is still quacking away. I actually caught him/ her and tried to extrude a penis (no small feat since she's larger than a pekin and weighs about 12 lbs) but all I got was some runny liquid and poop. And a kick in the face with a very large webbed foot. To be honest, I had a heck of a time even finding a hole in all her butt fluff. I finally had to just dig around and find it by feelBut either she has no penis or my skills at extrusion are insufficient. What is a relatively easy task on a wee duckling is way harder on a full sized duck. I really needed 4 hands. Later than same day, when I filled up the water tub, the Pekin drake got on HER back and mated her. Or him. Whatever. I don't know. Either I have a butchy hen or a transvestite drake.
If I ever get 4 eggs in one day I will know she's a she and just confused. Until then...
