A Question About Ducks - Broodiness?

One of my 2 Runners was broody. She was sitting on guinea eggs, but none of them were fertile, so she is no longer broody, but now one of our Blue Swedish has gone broody, so we will see what happens.

We REALLY want our hen to sit on some eggs. She did 2 years ago, before we had a drake.

Now we have a drake and she won't sit. She makes this huge fancy nest, lays a ton of eggs in it ( she once had 20!), but won't sit! So after about 2-3 weeks we throw away the eggs. We let her keep one nest for 1 1/2 months but still wouldn't sit. Could we get one of our chickens to sit on duck eggs?

Corn raises a duck's body temperature and facilitates the broody hormones, or so I've read. I also happened to be adding some scratch to my hen's grain just before she went broody (only because the weather took a big dip for the cooler). You could try it, just add a little corn, don't replace her feed with it.

My duck minnie is 1/2 rouen and 1/2 pekin and she is an awesome broody but a terrible mother because she hatched 10 eggs and 1 week later she started killing them because she wanted to sit on more eggs now we only have 3 ducklings left:( but well have more in 5 days(9 eggs). is that strange for a duck?

Next brood well seperate them!!!!!!

This is an interesting subject. Please keep it going for me! I currently own a pair of call ducks.... After their spring molt, she started to behave differently than normal. They have started breeding again and she is now laying eggs in various places in my flower beds. She is constantly in search of some secluded area to lay. Her very first egg this year was a soft shell end and I knew it wasn't going to be viable. So far, she has laid 5 eggs. Two were found in one spot, so I put all of them there. Hoping she will go broody in the near future.
Meanwhile, I have a very stubborn broody bantam hen that I have secluded and put 2 of the duck eggs under her today (17th). Hoping for the best...

I will be watching this thread for more information as it develops!
I conclude that a chicken can/will hatch out a ducks egg...

Now I'm off to research some more.

Well I originally started this thread and the duck I posted about never went broody and she now lives at a friend's house. However, my crested white duck has decided to sit so we will see.
