A random rambling...how do BYC members define socialism?

The problem does not lie with individuals or communities helping each other. The problem arises when the government has its fingers in the situation. There are always greedy people who are not satisfied or happy with "the community as a whole" owning/controlling the <fill in the blank>, and so things go south. If people really cared about each other rather than lining their own pockets the concept of socialism might work. Sadly, that's not how things go, and although a very small group of people may successfully achieve the concept of socialism a large group will fail entirely due to greed and being power-hungry. This is why socialism is considered a bad thing.

That, and because the other definition of it is being stage 2 in the transition to communism.

Human beings do not excel in a socialist type system. They may for a
while but it doesn't last
