OOOH! Yes, me too. The "other half" of my family says I "like being a redneck" because I moved to Tennesse, live in a "trailer," and have dogs, rabbits and chickens "running around our yard". For their information, Tennessee does not have a monopoly on rednecks, there are plenty where I came from. Our "trailer" is a very nice double wide that was brand new when we moved it to OUR property 2 years ago. Our chickens do not run around our yard, though I would love it if they could free range ... why would free range chickens make you a redneck anyway? Why do people think "trailers" and chickens are trashy? I know plenty of trashy people who live in "real" houses and have no chickens at all!

My mother outright refuses to come visit me because "She doesn't feel comfortable with all these animals and thinks I have psychological issues." Would she rather I took up a drug addiction, popped out some crack babies, and left her to care for her grandchildren? There are far, far worse things to have an interest in than nurturing animals!

I was talking about some new eggs I got for the incubatoor with my best friend (who doesn't understand the chicken addiction) and she acted irritated and said, "Well, How many will that make?" "Are you gonna eat these cause you don't have the room do you?"

I have 3 hens, 4 RIR juvies and 2 partridge rocks in the brooder right now, with over 1 1/2 acres, including to chicken coops and a shed we are converting into more chicken housing, so...i'm pretty sure we "have the room"...and NO, I am not eating the silkies that are currently in the incubator...so

Can't wait to see how she reacts when i get more! HA!

Get that all the time, But I do say to myself I need another one like I need a hole in my head, but I can say that..LOL Its harder expecially when people that don't care that much about animals. To me my dogs and horses are my kids!! I know have 5 dogs and 7 horses. Do I need that many? No Do I want that many? Yes. Just ignore them they probably don't understand and never will... Good choice on the Rotty puppy. My hubby wants a german rotty. He's had them his whole life and they have all been super sweet!

I built 2 playhouse coops one at a time in my driveway.. you'd think I built an ark in my driveway!!!! Surprised there were no accidents by rubberneckers.. I didn't build the 3rd yet, just couldn't stand all the looks and comments..

Once in a while, my boyfriend will ask to see my chickens. His main comment is always the same .. . . Wow Enola, you have waaaaay too many chickens ! He says it over and over, so the last time I took him in my shed, I told him he couldn't come back any more. I "LIKE" how many chickens I have.

All that matters is that you take care of them and they are social animals
