Naw, your body just thinks it's time for its "summer coat" least that's why I figure I shed so much.
Mom's side... hmmm... well my uncle Dad has an extremely thick head of hair yet my uncle Aaron has none... different DADs, same MOM... so that thing about it being Mom's side always boggled me.
Also, Dad's starting to have a thin spot in back, now that he's in his 50's and all white hair... but my brother A is the one who went BBC due to massive thinning in front and back and he's only 27. No men on Stepmom's (A's mom) side are thin at all... her dad, in 80's, still had a head full, and so did her mom... her brother still does.
Then you've got DH and his brother... 100% same gene pool, no steps. BIL is thinning, DH is most definitely not. But then BIL has been abusing alcohol and drugs since he was a teen so maybe that's the deciding factor?? Their mom's hair is fairly thin, which is why she does the 'old lady poof' hairdo... and I think that her dad eventually had a spot, but I don't know. FIL's dad had the ear ring going on (90's) but FIL and his brother are thick, if gray, hair.
Seems like the Mom Thing might work on the In Laws side... or it might just be chemical abuse.
Dad's household... doesn't make a lick of sense/no balding on StepMom's side.
Uncles... makes no sense as it was Aaron's DAD that went bald in the exact same pattern, while his brother (different dad) did not... not even thinning even with massive drug and alcohol abuse.
Overall... seems like a great big crapshoot to me... I don't know if I believe this is for sure something you can blame on Mom...

Seems to hold true around here. Hubbs has really thin hair (although it's sticking with him, for now) and so does his mom. He doesn't have any brothers to compare to.
His dad has PLENTY of hair, that has gone from just grey around the edges to mostly grey in the 5 years that I've known him. Must be that first granddaughter doing it to him. lol
FWIW I have plenty of hair myself, but I'm cold natured so I have a good collection of hats to keep myself warm. Between wool hats and wool socks I manage fairly well. There was a tall black guy that shaved his head year round at my old job, he had one of those perfect-for-shaving heads. Anyway, he too would break out the hats whenever the temp started to drop. I guess we made a fashion statement together.
