A sad fairwell to Peter and Sammy (new pics page 3!)

once it's stopped raining, Claudia said she'll get a picture of them in their new pen. Once she gets it to me, i'll post it up here...

I do wish you good luck with your new little ones...I'm sorry the others didn't work out

, but it is awesome you could give them to someone who is nearby and you know will take good care of them. When I lived in the city 2 kids came into the petstore where I worked with 4 muscovy ducklings they found on the street! Of course I took them since I had raised happy ducks before as a kid...3 of them made it to maturity and I kept them in my bedroom in a big tupper box and made a wire backyard pen for during the day. All of my roommates hated them and said I shouldn't have them in my room because they were stinky...they were cleaned everyday, but you know about ducks...so I found a girl who wanted them and she took them to live on their farm...

I always wonder how they are doing, and wish that somehow I could have kept them since now I have the space, but I know it really wouldn't have worked out. (I wish I had known about duck diapers!)
I'm just so glad that you can visit them, I wish I knew how mine were doing...hope they are still alive and happy!

Today's update: Oh that Sammy and Peter! The girls hang tight with the others, Lucy, Ricky, Fred, Ethel and Gus. They all love to hang out in a little wooded area directly behind their pen. They love the taste of fresh dirt, green leaves, dry leaves, sticks, acorns and just anything they can put their bills to! And today they were not very hard to chase out of their pen to do a little free-ranging(the first day of free-ranging they were in culture shock to leave their safety zone.)

They enjoyed a bath today also, big Sammy was THE first to dive in their little kiddy pool. And you could just tell she felt better to get sparkly clean again. Three days of rain had the pen really muddy!

By the end of the day they did not have to be pursuided to go back inside the pen, A FIRST! They followed all the chickens in and hung out in the run while watching all the chickens take their place inside the chicken house.

I am soo sorry about not getting pics today, I charged my recorder to get them and something unexpectedly came up.

I tell everyone that we are Sammy and Peter's adopted parents, the real parents are Nettie and David. Their devotion to their ducks is....unmatched by anyone.

Awthanks for telling me more Claudia! We miss peter and sammy a whole bunch. I am SOOOO glad they went out of the pen themselves and had fun free ranging. And that's awesome they went back in by themselves! That's funny that sammy jumped in, i guess she wanted to get her feathers pretty again. (you should see my new duckie Ollie, she keeps her pen sooo clean, she doesn't spill her water and i think she poops in the same spot everytime, lol).

It's okay about the pictures, whenever you get a chance! I know life is busy! I finally gave my new ducklings a bath last night. Vinny tried a baby diaper harness on for the first time today and tried to jump out of it, lol. Sammy used to try to back out of hers. lol. So funny. I'll try to get those pictures of them up sometime tonight or tomorrow depending on ming mei's needs.

This time luckily mingers got her medicine in tablet for instead of powder that has to go in applesauce. I just snuck a tablet into a cherry tomato and she thought she was lucky getting a treat. They way i built their pen, they stick their heads out of the front window for treats and it's funny.

This is a picture of Peter and Sammy with Lucy, Ricky, Fred, Ethel, and Gus at playtime today. Silly Peter with her head down, and Sammy only wanted to watch.

Everyone at one point, or another, has lived with Nettie and David. So they are very special to them. When learning that little Sammy has learned to fly, David and Nettie offered to give her a feather trim to prevent her from traveling too far.

We always love their visits. Thank you. Claudia

awww! thanks for posting claudia! We love coming to visit! David always has a blast and talks abut it for days. We were really missing them and were glad we got to stop by today. I'm so happy they are adjusted and love their new home. Victor and Ming Mei told me to give their regards since they couldn't come too.

I'm uploading all my pics on to my computer as we speak!

I want to know how Ming Mei isdoing since her operation! Is her foot okay? Does she eat? Walk? Is she feeling better? Lol. So many questions.

Say hello to my new ducks! Three Silver Appleyards. They don't like people much, but I'm working on them. The rest of my ducks are like "What are you guys doing in here??!" Perdi (goose) thinks it's her duty to 'drive them off'...

Flynn (drake), Fleetwood, and Featherweight. Oxymoron. She's not light at all. My mallards are like dwarfed by them.

I don't have pictures, but they're massive. So imaging snowy looking mallards, but (I'm guessing) maybe the size of a Rouen?? Haven't had rouens yet; not sure of size.
