The landlord and his family are staying in the yurt on the hill. We rent the house and some of the land, and they come out and stay for vacations in the yurt. Anyway, he came down to talk to me today. I was like, "Uh-oh. He's gonna tell me I can't have as much poultry next year or something." I was really nervous.

What he said was, "The farm looks great, but we keep wondering when you guys are going to get some peacocks. We love peacocks. They are so beautiful and make such cool sounds. Wouldn't they be great at getting rid of bugs out here, too?"

I was like, "Uh, YEAH, we can get some peacocks next year. If you want us to."

I mean, like twist my arm, right?

Yeah, tough renting from that guy, I tell ya. Well, I should have known he'd be cool about it because of three things:

1) he is a board head (windsurfer)
2) he is a vet (he has even operated on a tiger!)
3) he vacations in a yurt

Sweet!
I wish my landlords were like that.

*I will not get on my soapbox about my landlords*

That is the main reason we bought our place, tired of landlords telling us what not to have. One conversation went like this " Hey goats are not pets they are livestock, my lease says no pets" That was held rather shortly before we bought our own place.

It's kind of funny when you think about it. Being from the BIG CITY I have been dealt some bad hands with landlords in the past. When we first moved out to the country, we thought, "Oh great. They aren't gonna let us do anything out here." We would just do stuff and not tell them. But everything we did, they loved. Now they want more

God bless the kind folks who own our place

You should have told him to get the peacocks and you would raise them for him. Frugal lesson - let him pay for the things he wants to see out there. LOL
