I have learned everything about chicken raising and producing a happy healthy flock and gorgeous yummy eggs from everyone here!!!
I started knowing absolutely nothing about chickens, breeds, coops, predators, egg production etc. I ordered day old chicks, straight run from a hatchery. Luckily I ended up with all females and only 1 Roo. Starting from correct ways to rear healthy chicks, build a predator safe ( of which I have dispatched several raccoons and possums and kept away the neighborhood Hawk) and comfortable coop, proper food and interacting tips to finally producing top quality eggs on a daily basis including at least one double yolker a day
. I have not lost 1 chicken yet or encountered any illness, knock on wood, and have really enjoyed this experience more than I could have possibly imagined. I now enjoy sharing eggs with my neighbors here in Detroit, watching kids who have never seen a live chicken learn from my little flock and look forward to hatching eggs in the future as well! And did I mention the eggs!!!!! My flock is a joy to me, we will soon be setting up chicken t.v.....Thank you everyone for this experience and the knowledge I have gained from all of you and thank you BYC!!!!
