My Mom was raised on a farm that had lots of chickens, so you'd think she'd have some know-how about them. But, she was the baby in the family & spoiled rotten, so she never did any farm stuff. When I told her I was getting some baby chicks, she asked the same old question: "Don't you need a rooster to have eggs?"

no not that question wow really lol were in the same situation lol my mum remembered a few things but yea

I was one of those people that thought you couldn't eat a fertilized egg

so I was a bit on the blind side as well. Now i get all eggcited when I crack one open and see the little "bullseye" mark on it!

I had someone say if you don't have a rooster won't one of the females turn into a rooster. She is a nice girl so I didn't crack up in her face. I don't tell a lot of people I have chickens because my friends think I have gone off the reservation completely. But my kids love them (sometimes more than me) and my husband tolerates them (like most things I decide we are going to try). But they all will think differently when we finally have eggs!

BYC is great and extremely helpful, so I agree!
In fact, I don't even have a FB account(yes, not everyone is on FB!) or any other social networking account...only BYC.
I love that BYC keeps the site clean....very cool!

wind or fart eggs do not come from roosters they come from a hen that mite just be starting to lay

Yeah,I explained that to him, he looked a little perplexed at first and said...."but the old lady that used to raise the chickens said...." I guess they liked to tease the kids in the village he used to visit in the old country!
