A Thread About Trees

I have been thinking a lot about my semi dwarf orchard I want to put in. I may do it differently. What I was going to do was plant 6 trees of various species in 2 rows of three. I was going to summer trim them to keep the height down. However, I was looking at an orchard sellers website ( Trees of Antiquity?) and found a diagram where they suggest if you are going to summer trim the semi-dwarfs for height...to plant them 3 to 4 seedlings in a square or triangle. So they grow like a big bush. Now that is intriguing and would allow me even more diversity in my orchard as I have room to plant three of these groupings in a row. Has anyone else ever done this? Positives, opinions? Please share!

The nice thing about citrous is you can have a variety on one trunk . Or if you don't like what you have you can cut it back en graft on something new.

interesting idea with the bush trees. I have seen dwarfs planted along a fence. every post was a tree snd all the branches were tied back on the fence.

I bought some fruit trees today. Plums methely & shiro pear moonglow and 2 rome apples. Could not resist. 2 1/2 gallon potted. $9.98 each at Wal Mart

out here in the central valley sometimes they will grow apples like Grapes just real tall grapes. they drive down the center of the rows and harvest that way

My 'ol stompin' ground when I was a teenager so long ago. Dad ( a rocket scientist working
at Aerojet on the Apollo Moon project) built a house in Cameron Park.
Corner of Hillsbourgh and Cedarhurst in '64. He even won the Club Championship one year.
I loved living in El Dorado County. I think it is the prettiest place on earth. I hope it still is.
That was back in the middle 60's when things were still wild, smile.
Is that old time soda parlor, The Sierra Nevada House #2, still there? We used to go down
there for old time sodas. They brought the ice cream and the soda to the table in separate
containers. Oh yum! I can still taste them. Then there was the small general store in
Shingle Springs. It probably isn't there any more. There wasn't a local Methodist church so
we drove to Placerville to go to the Methodist Presbyterian Federated Church. Is the old
Blue Plate Café still there in Placerville? They had a special colored plate they used to serve
the daily special on. Cute.
In 8th grade at Buckeye Elementary we were studying the Civil War. We decided to make a
movie about the battle of Culp's Hill at Gettysburg. We titled it "This Hallowed Ground".
The script was written and all the girls made or bought ball gowns for the final scene at the big
Ball. There was a battle and Dad sourced all the explosives for the fight scene. We had explosives
and smoke bombs. The kids in the neighborhood brought their hourses and a mule for mounted
troops. It was a blast. We filmed it in a huge meadow next to the school which just happened
to have a railroad track running along its edge for realism. We even had a grand opening with us
girls riding on the top of the back seats of convertibles as we drove down the hill to the school.
I think the film was about 28 minutes long. Last time I checked, it was still in the archives of the
Sacramento Valley School District.

Eldorado Hills has exploded in Population over the years and is the most populated place in the County. Eldorado hills and Cameron Park just about touch. I went to Ponderosa too! For the 1st 1/2 of my freshman year, then we moved to West Covina in SoCal where Dad was working on the Mark46 torpedo for the Navy. EDH and CP almost touch! Wow! It used to be you had go down Hwy 50 and around the curve above Clarksville and down the hill into the valley to get to EDHs! No ELH east of that Clarksville. Wow.
Remember Bass Lake turnoff It used to be the lower entrance to Cameron Park didn't it? Never forgot the day bro Gary came running in the house exclaiming how Mr. Goldsberry has been driving his truck out the lower entrance to Cameron park. That rattler stretched from curb to curb f the double lane road. he had to run his full size PU over it and then back up over to to kill it. There were 24 rattles on it. I went biking down there to see it but by them it was gone, taken by someone. Mr. Goldsberry had 2 dogs, a German Shepherd named Scoundrel and a black lab name Ashley. We used to run the hills together. But not when I was hunting rattlesnakes. I was under the misguided impression they could only strike 2/3 their length so I found one, got it to strike and then tried to drop a rock on its head. I can't remember if it killed it or not, but I decided that day, that was a bit to close fro comfort. Kinda like diving off the diving board at the Cameron Park Club pool after the adults had poured a container of ice cream mix in it the night before at one of their parties. The whole pool was milk colored and we couldn't see a thing in the water. The adults figured it out about noon and closed the pool. Killjoys.
I see from mapquest they have drained the old cattle reservoir above Bass Lake and Silver Dove Rds. That was fun. We used to go up there and gig frogs. man they were big 'ol things. legs like a small fryer. Gotta take the nerves out the legs tho. No one told my Mom and boy was she surprised when the pan got hot and they jumped out of it!

I remember Bass Lake in the Early 90's drove around the corner and there where a ton of people standing on the road side looking at 2 bald eagles in a dead tree on the south end of the lake just sitting there taking a rest I assume lol
