We had Coach for 10 to 12 years I'm not for sure the date when we purchased him. He was a little ball of fluffy cochan. He never really fit in with the other chickens. In the morning when they were just getting used to the ouside world I would carry them out and put them in the side yard. When I would carry Coach out he would always escape threw the gate and go back to the coop. He was a loner most of the time unless a chicken or guinea was sick or broody. He would lay beside a broody or if someone wasn't feeling well he was by their side.
I used to call him the keeper of the coop. When Mary Jane our guinea was broody he watched over her in the coop. You would have thought he was the dad to all those eggs. When the time was up on the eggs and she didn't hatch I had to throw the eggs away. Coach was different after that. He started venturing out of the coop more spending more time with the chickens in the yard. He never got along with Bubba the head roo but I seen him in a couple of scrables put up a good fight before I seperated them.
When I held Coach he would put his little head up to you and almost hug you. I sure did miss him this morning when I opened the coop and let everyone out. He always ate in the coop and I would fill his bowl up and I would put eggs, peas and lettuce on top. If one of the girls come back in the coop he would be happy to share with them.
Yesterday when I took some corn out for the chickens I yelled for him but he didn't come out of the coop. I searched the yard and couldn't find him anywhere. Corn was his favorite and I knew something was wrong. We found him in a little tub we had buried and filled with water for the ducks. We've never had a problem with any of the chickens getting in it. He must have fell into the water and couldn't get out. I wish I was there Coach to save you. I am so sorry. You will be missed so much and we loved you. RIP Coach.
p.s. I will attach a photo of him I took about a week ago.
