i have one boy in the aviary (grau fee) that I named squeakers early on because he is extremely vocal and will stand up to any human or bird......one of my most hilarious quail in the bunch!!

That looks like a pretty nice comfy setup for the quail. Can you share more pictures of it ? :caf
Sure, I'll but Im finding it had a few major design flaws this winter so it's getting completely rebuilt in the spring. The lid had two parts it was supposed to make it easy to get into but I cant reach the far corner unless I crawl inside after winterizing it and of course they've figured that out and are laying in there. The lids also making the water all sluce to the center and inside inside of shedding properly. I just had to put a sort of canopy on it with a tarp to make it actually shed water. But its managing to stay good and warm even with the current weather. Lowest it went last night was 17. And it hit -8 before windchill, still negative this morning but the dark tarps warning it up, at 22 right now. -26 with windchill.

Its 8 feet by 4 feet by 3 feet tall. Has five quail in it right now. But it originally Had 7 before I had to move romeo and his girl inside so cujo from the video up there wouldnt kill him.

One word of advice on the idea of access from the top. As you have figured out it stinks. I had a chicken tractor with access from the top and did not like it. So now the meat birds are raised in a walk-in style A-Frame. I would consider something similar for quail. This looks like it would work pretty well with fold down sides for access.
