I needed some more housing for my layers (and their husband, of course!) but had no money to spend. Well, I had an unused swingset, a scrap of tin roof, lumber and a door I salvaged when I tore down my ex-husband's recording studio, and lots of soundproofing rubber mats. I threw it all together to make a henhouse that Sanford and Sons would be very proud of! A little junky looking but they have had a blast so far on their slide stairs and multiple roosts.
Tried to lift it just out of curiosity and it is going to be a breeze to relocate when the grass is all eaten under it.
The only thing I bought was poultry net and a box of staples. I even re-used screws I pulled out of the walls I tore out! I am pretty jazzed about it so far. It'll be a work in progress for awhile until I see what about it works and doesn't work.
What do y'all think? Pretty "green" without spending a lot of "green"? ;-)

Thanks! They are hilarious in there! They walk up the steps and slide down the sides. My son and I had a picnic dinner so we could watch the show! :)
I really need help naming it! My son is desperate to paint a sign for the post on the end!

Thats just AWESOME!!

I have an old swingset here that has a metal swing (for adults). The swing is bent up and no one uses it. I was thinking of making the set into a coop/run too! But I would have to buy a few more things

My coops arent going to be pretty. Trying to do as much recycling as I can (and less spending $). I will be picking up 2 trampoline frames tomorrow. Going to try to figure out how to make a couple of tractors with them. I have some 8 wk old chicks that could go out. Only have a temp run for daytime. Still bring them back in at night. Have a ton of other little chickies that will need somewhere when they get old enough!
