Hi Folks,

My husband caught a raccoon running off with a hen last night just as we were locking the coop. She survived and has an abrasion on her back. She survived the night, but is still a bit shocky. He has cleaned the wound and dressed it. Got some electrolyte chick water in her. What else? Poor girl is just 4 months old. I am out of state dealing with estate matters.

Im not sure. She will be traumatized for the rest of her life. I have a roo that is scared by everything because of a fox attach.

Flushing with saline solution and then putting betadine on the wound can help.
They are pretty resilient. I had 2 hens terribly torn up by a raccoon but they eventually fully recovered.
I'm not sure how much electolytes would help. I'd lean more toward Nutri-Drench.

Flush with Betadyne, and slather in antibiotic ointment. Continue applying the antibiotic ointment about 3 times a day. Depending on the wound, you will probably want to isolate the chicken until it's mostly healed up. If you don't want to isolate the chicken, apply BluKote, so the others don't try picking at the wound.
