What did you do in the garden today?

I've been experimenting with making my own deodorant. Anyone else done this before? I'm going to have to throw out the first batch I made... I used baking soda along with other ingredients and it gave me a bad rash. Too alkaline for my skin... I finished a new batch today. Ingredients below... So far, so good! :fl

3 T. Coconut Oil
1 T. Shea Butter
1 T. Mango Butter
3 T. Arrowroot Powder
1 T. Kaolin Clay
1/2 Tsp Lanolin
2 T. Beeswax
Essential Oils for scent - I used Lavender and Vanilla

This is an update on the potato candy I posted earlier. One package had 5 small potatoes, and another packet had 3. It's sold by weight and one package cost $10. I can't recommend buying them because they taste exactly like roasted sweet potato, but not as dry, it's more on the sticky side. I prefer roasted sweet potato with butter.

Hold on, I just tried the larger orange colored one and it tasted totally different than the smaller brownish potato candy I tried earlier. The texture and taste of the larger orange one is more like high quality fiber less mango and doesn't taste like sweet potato. I would buy it again if I could get only the orange color ones.

We finally got rain! It’s been raining off and on all day and have accumulated 3/4 inch so far. It’s supposed to continue until early tomorrow morning. I did some more research and I believe I have figured out that my “not really a concord grapevine” is almost that. I believe it is a fox grape, Vitis labrusca. That is the original grape used to develop Concord grapes. I guess this vine that I purchased has just reverted to its ancestral state. The grapes are a bit smaller and I think they will fully ripen before the other vine so I’ll freeze those grapes to mix with the real Concord grapes when they are fully ripe to make jam. I’m hoping to get enough (3 1/2 pounds) to make at least one batch. I may try to plant some more fall crops tomorrow. Crazy stuff, I’m letting the pea plants hang in the garden spot to feed the acorn squash plants. Today’s comic relief is what I saw in that little garden bed today:

It’s like the old Energizer bunny commercial. They just keep on growing. Lol!

Sunday, my boyfriend built me a potting bench. Today I decided to pull out some abandoned pots from underneath the tomatoes and overgrowth in my garden and set to work using that potting bench. One pot that I shoved aside in the spring as a failure, greeted me with a gorgeous mango seedling! ❤️

Ants for me.
Nest boxes. Processing table, 4 places in my car. Bales, house windows......
ditto on the ants. Finally had an exterminator come in after fighting them for the past few years. No squash bug problems this year because I didn’t plant any squash….I value what little sanity I have left over a squash harvest.
