Everyone has a different opinion on this one, as you have encountered.
I feed mine grit and old fashioned oats...just a bit, every morning from the time they turn 1 week old. It is more to give them something to peck and scratch around for then for treats, per say. They just love to dig and scratch and find those tiny tidbits
I also hang a baby cake, by farmer's helper, in their brooder. They love to peck around at that thing, too
At around 3 weeks, I start adding some cut up grapes, watermelon or pieces of other fruit in with their breakfast
Another really fun treat at 4 weeks and above...cut up pieces of spaghetti! That can provide both the chicks and you with great entertainment. At that point, some mealworms can be introduced..they really love those and you can hand feed them...
Good luck with what you decide to do. I have never lost a chick and they grow up healthy and happy
Just remember, once you add anything besides their starter feed, they need grit!

Thanks everyone. Super excited to have Chickens for the first time.
Can anyone tell me when I can start giving them treats of any sort? I wanna start giving them a little something when I pick them up. They are about 9-10days old.
I've read 5 or so weeks, then some saying 1 week for some treats... So, I'm lost on that. Til then... Starter feed!
