Sadly tis the life of the gardener...... but it is good exercise, just keep pulling at the weeds and don't let them set seed...... eventually you will have less weeds.....but that is eventually.

we did this for the first time this year and so far its worked.

took old newspaper out on a nonwindy day after weeding and laid it down around all the plants. Then covered it with grass clippings and wet it all down enough that the newspaper was damp.
so far only a few have poked throught the paper and they are quick to pull. Best part is, theres not a ton of waste afterward and it gives those old things a recycled job!

Before I start I will admit my garden is completely out of hand this year, but.....

If you spray 20% vinegar and lay clear plastic over it on a very sunny hot day that should kill your weeds...and anything else under the plastic. Leave the plastic down for a couple of weeks until everything is good and dead (might want to pull the plastic up, till, spray w/more vinegar and put the plastic back down for a couple of more weeks) then pull it up and put several thickness of newspaper down, cover that with a weedblock fabric and then cover that with mulch.

....exhausting. I'm pretty sure I need to retire to get it all done.

save newspapers.... (not the ads) and lay them down a few thick... then WET THEM

it will smother the weeds and will compost into your garden

works... I promise ya!

clear plastic over what is there now and weedblock fabric next season.

I put wheat straw around all of my plants this year. This served two purposes. It helps to keep the soil moist and cuts down on watering and it keeps those weeds from growing right up to the base of your vegees!

At the end of the season, cover the whole garden with black plastic. Leave it on for at least 3 weeks. This works best if it is sunny and hot, but will work any way. The plastic blocks the light and kills any existing weeds, and if it is hot enough, will heat the ground enough to kill many weed seeds. You could leave the plastic on until you are ready to plant the nest year. You also need to be careful with compost. If your compost has not been heated thoroughly and you put your weeds in the bin, the weed seeds will still be viable when you compost your garden.
