aaargh! (short rant)

My hens!!! They've been getting Layena crumbles since they were old enough. I switched to Layena pellets for one bag. Then, even though I had less waste with the pellets, for some unknown reason, I thought they might not like them as well and switched back to crumbles yesterday morning. Filled a big feeder that usually lasts them the better part of a week with them. When I went to collect eggs in the p.m., the feeder was almost empty and there was feed all over the coop floor! I was ready to pull their little tail feathers out! I guess they'll be eating off the floor for a while!

And I guess that from now on, I'll buy pellets.

I don't know what your feeder is like, but if they are able to get their whole bodies into it, they likely got in and scratched and dusted themselves in the feed. They can't do that with pellets.

It's hanging. I don't think they can get in it, and they have a huge run with good dust-bathing places. And from the appearance of the food left in it, it was all "beaked" out, as the remainder was in a nice pointed pile.

ugh... little rats!

I will only buy pellets now too, same reason. I still have one roo that gets in his food bowl and scratches his food everywhere, everyday. The rest have hanging feeders.

I bet yours did scoop it all out with their beaks, I think chickens like the pellets better, at least mine do.
