Aaracana, Ameraucana, (Americana), Easter Eggers

I just wondered if, as I integrate younger chicks into the main flock, if they'll just fall lower and lower in the pecking order. But I suppose it could go either way at any time. Depending on individual personalities. I'm very excited to watch them grow and evolve. I swear, if I'd known chickens were this much fun, I'd have had them years ago. :)

it can sure be fun.. I had totally changed my flock by selling all my other birds keeping
only 5 mature Barreds I have and then adding a total of 9 easter eggers and 4 olive eggers
to my dozen or so barred's

I've incubated and hatched 3 batches of Easter Egger chicks already this year, and I've got more cooking under a broody hen right now. It can get quite addicting, especially since there are always neat surprises with Easter Eggers.
Like the assortment that Penny just acquired. Barring, muffs, clean faces, silver penciling...

I will have to take photos of the girls now.. them and the olive eggers are
hanging together now with momma easter taking care of them all.. she may grow up to be
top bird in the coop..
you know that momma easter has the puffy cheeks but is very cute with them

Do you keep all your chicks??
I keep a few pullets to grow out for my breeding program. Pullets that don't have the right features for what I'm working towards are sold. Most of the cockerels are invited to dinner. I'm keeping the red cockerel.
My goal is a line of large, bright red birds, with muffs, that lay shades of green eggs.
I'm hoping to be done with incubating for the summer. My little cockerel needs to grow up before I can see what he produces. Come next spring, I should be pretty close to meeting my end goal consistently.
