Abandoned Bunny - UPDATE

The cage he is in is very heavy wood and I wish I could just drag it over to my house but it belongs to the neighbor who has moved out. He may come back for it...or he may never be back.

I just ran out in the snow and tried to get him in but he hopped to the front of the cage where I couldn't reach him!

Tomorrow I am going to get my chickens to bring home here THEN I will have the cage I transported them here in....so my question is should I wait until tomorrow to get the bunny in the cage??? Will he make it through the night in the cold? It has been cold for so long here he might be used to it or is this an emergency. My heart is breaking for this beautiful little bunny......

oh and I don't know what kind he is but he is white with red eyes and looks very clean.

Look do all that you can and if it isn't possible to get him tonight then leave some water and snacks for him and get him tomorrow.

Is there another person (with long arms) who could help you catch him in the cage? It might be good to bring your cardboard box to the cage with you, so that you can plop the bunny in it right away to carry it to your garage or porch. Bunnies can sometimes jump fast, so make sure you can close the top of the box to carry it in. You can punch small holes in each side of the box so that the bunny has air coming in.

Also, if you cannot get the bunny out of the cage tonight, to help keep it warm, give it a bowl of water and oats or bread or grains (like barley or wheat) and a half of an apple to eat. It will take the water a while to freeze, so the bunny will at least get a chance to have a long drink first. The food will help it stay warm.

If you have hay, you could pile up a lot of hay on the bottom and sides of the cage so it can make a deep nest to help keep warm.

Does the cage have a roof on it? You could put some boards on top, if it has not roof. If you have an old blanket that you wont ever want to use again, you could also put that either around the cage or inside so the bunny can keep warm in it.
