I have a tractor coop I built several years ago. My chickens are fully free range and they go back to the coop pen for water and feed, but don't seem to set foot in the coop. Is there a reason why?

Hi jtchris

So the food and water are not in the coop? Where do they roost at night?
The food and water are in a covered area attached to the coop. At night they roost in the trees.

Some like to roost in trees. My girls march in the coop like good little soldiers. The ventilation, lights and doors are all controlled by either temperature and sunset time. They know when to go to bed. If I were to move their roost stands they have, they’d be mad and some would stand outside in protest
