This brings back unforgettable heartwarming memories of one of my very pregnant rescues from 7 years ago - she had 5 babies through the night Thanksgiving eve. All were black, just like their mom. And they were sooooooooooooooooo teeny tiny - they literally looked like mice, not like Abby's kittens at all. She was so tired when the last one came that she was cleaning the wrong end when it came out and the sac was over its head and it couldn't breathe. I gently removed it, turned her around, and mommy Samantha went to work. She was brilliant with them (everybody got spayed/neutered later on of course!). I obsessed till I found the best possible homes for Sam's priceless babies (it was very difficult to find good homes but that's a thread unto itself!), waiting 10-14 weeks till they could separate with less anxiety than occurs with earlier separation, and I have Sam to this day and can't imagine life without her.

Abby is just beautiful, as are her babies. Cats are so smart - Abby, Samantha, they totally know that we're trying to help, that we're on their side. What comfort that must be to Abby at a time when she could have just as easily been homeless and hungry and cold while trying to have and care for babies. She will thank you every day forever for that.

JJ- I knew you had a good heart. Besides chickens, kitties too! (Or, most likely, all critters great and small.)

Oh, Wildsky, so sorry about your Chutney.

Can't even imagine why my husband thinks I am extremely sappy.

It makes me sad that I can't keep any of them...even Abby, but I already have 4 cats and that is as many as I feel I can reasonably care for (they, too, as well as my dog, were all strays). I have already found a wonderful home for her when the kittens are weaned, however.

My neighbor across the street's father wants her. He is a very kind and wonderful man and I know she will be loved dearly and spoiled rotten. I dread that day, however.

As much as I promised myself I wouldn't get attached, I am afraid I am already. How can you keep from it????? They are so soft and sweet.

My white cat Kitty-Kitty is getting ready to have babys any day now. She's a little longer haired then Abby with big blue eyes. This will be her first litter. She is very loving and enjoys letting me cuddle her and feel the baby's moving about inside.
She is a very vocal cat, always has been, and can drownd out the TV with her purring.
