I have had my small flock here in Abilene for just short of one year. I did my research before I built the brooder, bought my chicks, etc., etc., and swear I saw a city ordinance on the city's web site saying no roosters. Okay. No problem.
Well, a couple days ago there was an article in the local paper saying the city is proposing a ban on roosters on city property less than one acre, and that on properties larger than that they would have to kept at least 50 feet away from the property line. The story indicated there has not been any previous restrictions on roosters.
Huh? I went back to the city web site after reading the story in the paper, and could not find the original passage I saw last year.
I don't know. Maybe I was imagining it, but I could swear they said we could not have roosters in the city limits.
Then this morning I read the city is postponing the proposal.
Danged if I know now, but for the record I am rooster free. If anyone has roosters here now, apparently it's okay.
