abit of advice please

wow thanks for that ill go seperate them .m

any ideas on how to lower humidity?

m.hubbard :

oh right both bators are on as i thought the quail eggs would take up more room .

so how war5m should it be for either chicken eggs or quail eggs?

im getting confuseed on the temps now.m

p.s a big thanks for all the replys .m

the temp is 99.5 for both.. the only thing different is the length of time ..

You can hatch them together .. the temperature is basically the same at the top of the chicken eggs as it is 3/4 inches lower at the top of the quail eggs.. the heat is not layered, especially if you have forced air.

go ahead and tilt the whole bator..
the excess water will run out, but there will still be water left..

If all the water runs out contact me (PM) and I will tell you how to remedy that problem.. a very simple fix,, I modified all 8 of my LG and Hovas.. no $ cost to do it.

I wouldn't use any version of the tilt method(egg carton or whole bator) with a still air incubator. Still air incubators settle in to thermal layers an require the eggs to be all at the same height. The tilt method moves some eggs up in to hotter air an some eggs down in to colder air. And in the whole bator method(according to how your incubators made) you may be moving the thermostat up an down in the thermal layers cousing vast temperature fluctuations.

I would just stick an oven rack on the incubator floor an then drag it from side to side rolling all the eggs at once or just roll them around by hand.

thanks for all the info .

iv got 2 home built still air bators with papper cups of water in the didital hygromiter is set at
at min 99.5 and max of 102 so temps are ok .the humidity is around 55% not sure how to get it down tho if i need to.

i may just put the quails in the other bator id rather turn them but may give it a go on the next lot tho.m

i was thinking of using my pekin bantam for hatching sum eggs .do you think she would hatch quail eggs ?

what is a pekin bantam, a duck?

ducks wet their feathers during incubation. I do not know if the quail eggs could handle that extra moisture.. anyone else know??

a chicken could hatch quail eggs, I tried it.. but at hatching time you have to confine the cluck in a cage with tiny or no holes so the chicks cannot get away.. the same goes for guinea chicks.. they will NOT stay with the hen..

55% is not too bad.. the 2nd quickest way to lower % is to open vent holes.. the quickest is to open the bator, but then you also lose heat..
then decrease the surface area of the water..

wow i think i'll try the rack metherd nxt time .
i may go get a small fan to make it a forced air incubator .

a pekin bantam is just a small chicken with feathers on it's feet really and at the min shes a good layer as she started first and gives me 1 egg every day with my black rock .the brown layer are poo at the min .2eggs aday from 5 hens
