I received some beautiful Ameraucanas from Privett. I'm not planning on showing them, but should I consider these girls EEs or are Privett chicks a better quality? Thanks for your help.

Sonja, can you post pictures? Seems like, from what I've learned, most EEs have willow (greenish) colored legs. Not all, but most. That would be a dead giveaway that it's an EE rather than an Ameraucana, if it does have willow legs.

Ameraucana only have specific variates that are recognized by the APA. So if you have a bird that has the silver columbian pattern, lays blue eggs, has muffs and beard and blue shanks and feet it is not recognized as an Ameraucana. It is not an easter egger because they are hybrid to the max and are not able to consistently produce offspring that look the same. Blue is one exception to the rule. Easter eggers segregate all kinds of genes. Some would say the columbian bird I described is an easter egger and others would say it is an unrecognized Ameraucana. The debate goes on.

I agree with Wynette the green legs are a dead give away.

If the seller called them Americaunas, your chances of having Ameraucanas is quite small. A person who has real Ameraucanas would be likely to know the correct spelling. IMNSHO.

Was just reading another post that mentioned Privett's 'Ameraucanas' (They do spell it right on the website and they explain the difference between them and Araucanas..... unfortunately I personally feel that they are Easter Eggers and I wish they would label them as such. If you will notice that the image of the eggs shows a yellow egg.... another poster said that their friend bought some of these from Privett and that some of them will indeed lay a yellow/gold egg. This is a sure sign that these are NOT pure Ameraucanas. Sorry

There are quite a few reputable breeders out there that you could buy hatching eggs and/or chicks from. Possibly even one in your area if you search around.
