They do need to be kept on eye on. Most Duckling if kept under a heat lamp after swimming will be able to preen themselves dry, but some need to be blow dryed. I usually let them have their first swim at 1 week.

Lucky you then. I've lost more than one this way, learned about swimming without mamma the hard way.I must be the worst Duckling owner ever..
Mine swim and live out with Momma and have never lost one..My incubated Ducklings are swimming at two days old and put back in brooder to preen and play..![]()
They need to be dry too though. I had ways in and out. Waterfowl babies can become waterlogged and drown just from too much water in their down.Safe swimming..ways in and out..
If around other ducks, the babies will be given the older one's oil. Do your research guys- it's true!
