on average what is the cost to raise them to butcher size?

It would depend on what you feed them. Coturnix are full grown at 12 weeks, and I think I buy a bag of feed like once a month for mine. I have over 40 quail. One bag of the feed I buy is about $15.

For meat is best to butcher at 7 weeks (their is not any significant meat gain after 7 weeks, just reproductive growth).
