About Leg Bands...

Someone please tell me how the legbands work.
I see them in shows, but where do you get them?
Is there a number on them already?
what does the number mean?
Do you do it all yourself?

LEg bands you can buy from a poultry supply house. They are numbered and breeders record the numbers to keep track of their birds, breeding ect. I think mcmurry has them among others.

I'm not sure about legbands at shows, but I use the numbered ones to identify my chickens, because some of them look so much alike.

I got numbered ones from Cutler Supply, www.cutlersupply.com

They were least expensive there, and they were shipped very fast.

Do you have to use the metal permenant ones for showing or is it ok to use the bandettes?

I use the plastic bandettes that are "adjustable" and that show a number.

I show...ALOT and I HATE those spiral metal bands. Hate them. The other bands have to be put on using a wrench (my hands aren't strong enough to do it alone).

What leg bands are required for showing? Which leg does the band go on? Does it have to have my name and address, or what does it have to have on it? I really want to start showing. I would love to enter the Ohio Nationals. Thanks and sorry for all the ?

No real requirements as to what the legbands should have on them. Most shows say you are supposed to have identifying information (colour & number), but I've never seen it actually be required. Order what you like and put them where you like.

One thing I will say is that the legbands can be useful in identifying a bird, and unfortunately more and more birds are being stolen at shows. Not many, but even one is too much.
