(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’m new to chickens. I’ve wanted some for years though. I got my first set of chicks about a month ago but I have more coming
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have seven chicks right now. 4- 3 week olds and 3- 2 week olds
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 2 black Diamond chicks, 2 white silkies, and 3 frizzled Ameracauna x Black copper marans mixes
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Knowing where my food is coming from and that the meat and eggs are raised ethically and sustainably. I also really love the self sufficiency that comes with growing and raising my own food and like the opportunity I have to teach my child those skills
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening- both flower gardening and fruit and vegetable gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a husband and 1 child(so far), multiple cats, and a lazy bulldog. We’re in the process of buying the house my grandfather built so we can take care of my grandmother and aunt as they get older and preserve the family property.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve known about BYC for a couple months while I was doing my research about which chickens to get. I finally decided to join so I can take part in the local discussion board.
