About time

I'll comment only generally on this as an issue facing all military around the world.

Equality by gender is seen as the required norm now in most walks of life in the West. I agree but equality by gender is not the same as standards of ability or aptitude. Requirements for a job must be exactly the same for male and female, with due regard for pregnancy issues. Making it easier for a woman, or any other target group, to qualify is wrong and, in military front line operations, downright dangerous.

Front line work is, I suppose, about killing more than anything else. I have to question whether the proportion of women who are prepared to kill a man, woman or child is as large as the proportion of men willing so to do. I have no opinion but views of others, or preferably some facts, would be welcome.

When any government opens the doors to greater equality, we must question the motive. Is it, in this case, the fulfillment of an election promise or is there a shortage of male recruits? Perhaps a new campaign on on the cards. Iran or Africa?

I think that Mali and Iran are currently on the U.S. hit-list for various reasons. I've heard rumors regarding Uganda as well. Iran seems most likely since, as we all know, despite a complete lack of evidence, they are certainly in the process of building a nuclear weapon that can hit the U.S., once again despite the fact that they only have glorified SCUD missiles that can only reach the edge of the Middle East at most..

Isn't it nice that now women get to be Imperial cannon-fodder too?

Algeria is on the military target list of several nations interested in the oil and gas there, I imagine. Mali is a sideshow but there seems to be links between the Islamists there, those in Algeria and the ones in Libya well armed with Gaddafi era weapons.

Iran has been threatened by several Western nations as well as Israel. It's thought that Israel has nuclear weapons and the other certainly do. Who can blame Iran for at least suggesting it's developing the same? It's first target would be Israel.

I don't believe that any nation would want to use nuclear weapons but extremist groups might.
