About to incubate for the first time

I just ordered the Hovobator Genesis 1588. Anybody have any experience with how often I will need to add water to this? I'm going to be out of town a few days for New Years, but my pet sitter will be here 4-5 times a day for my dogs, so she can look in on it, make sure nothing is going crazy......I'm debating on waiting on starting the eggs til after I return but I have an opportunity to get some BCM's now which is what I have been dying for so if this incubator can go a few days without water I'd love to get this eggs and start them soon. Then they may hatch a few days after I get
home!

I use a 1602N with fan kit and turner. I set 18 mutt eggs 17 days ago. All looked good on day 14. My temps have held with only 2 x less than 1/4 turns of the thermostat in the last 17 days. I am running dry 25-30% humidity with no water added. I will have to leave my next hatch with a sitter for 10 days.

With the 1588's auto controller - you should be fine to go away - as long as you have a turner. The eggs may even appreciate the no touch period.

Thanks! I decided not to get the eggs from this particular person anyway (want to make sure i get eggs from a reputable breeder)so I may just wait. I'm just excited & ready to go!! Lol I have my Turken hen who is not laying yet, a Barred Rock I just got a week ago who I was told was laying but no eggs yet :( & as scared as she is of me I know I will always prefer to raise my flock from hatch as I did my first .... Which means patiently waiting for eggs ( which I'm no good at lol)

Well I'm on day 21 and I couldn't get the humidity over 40% for some reason. What can I expect, no pipping yet and only 1 egg rocking, all the ones in the bator are definitely developed but what do I do to keep them from dying now?

What kind of incubator is it? Do you have vents open for air flow babies need to breath. Try not to open it so you dont dry anyone out when they pip. Might sound kinda wierd but You can wet down and tampon and put it in the water well and it will help wick up the moister to the air, warm water helps up the humidity as well I think. Im sure someone will have more ideas soon , IF you have a hole thats open like the little vents on the lg or what not you can run a straw or some airline tubeing strait into the water well so you can add warm water with a sirenge without opening the bator up.

Well considering the situation, it went pretty well out of 13 eggs put in, 7 hatched. I have 3 ameracaunas, 1 blue wyandotte, and surprisingly 2 favrolles. 2 of the wyandottes I put in dyed fully developed in the shell, I opened them on day 23 and they were gone, they were beautiful babies too, I'm still tore up about it. I ordered 6 ameracaunas and 6 blue wyandottes and 2 of the 3 that hatched to my surprise were favrolles,I contacted the breeder and he recently bought a blue laced wayndotte hen from a lady that had favrolles and he thought he waited long enough to sell eggs but apparantly not long enough. So he sent me six more eggs that he's positive are blue wyandottes, nonetheless these 2 will be loved and taken care of. Thanks for your concern and help everyone. I will post some pics tonight when I get home.
