About to spread sand in the run - any prep suggestions?

I decided to not do any prep for now, we're going to need to rebuild the area of the run in the Spring anyways because the ground isn't quite level and with the holes they've been digging around the edge of the run it needs to be fixed. It looks much better, and boy oh boy are the ladies happy with the new floor! They ran in and started bathing immediately. They are out there now just rolling around in it

When we redo it in Spring I'll use more sand (Probably at least twice what I used today), but this was good for now.

Head in the sand - wings spread out. They are so silly!

Excellent idea!
I've been thinking about putting sand in my fenced run - tired of washing muddy footprints off the eggs

I have a small pile of leftover crusher-run fines (every horseperson's "Precious") that could go underneath the sand.
Is it worth putting down landscape fabric beneath the gravel?
